FAQ: How to make the PRP folder smaller?

Here are some hints of what you can do to get a smaller PRP installation folder under Windows.

Whatever you do, the following three files are a must have:

  • prp.exe (main executable)
  • prp.ini (stores the settings, gets created automatically)
  • fmod.dll (audio library)

To shrink the filesize of the prp.exe and fmod.dll you can use the Ultimate Packer for Exectuables (UPX). In a normal distribution these files are no longer pre-compressed by default.

On top of that you need to have a stations folder with at least one station file (*.prp) in it. Every other folder (such as skins, creator, docs) can be deleted!

In general each station file includes a station logo as well. This is the main reason for the relatively large folder size. By removing the station logo from each station file one can drastically change that. You can hop over to the downloads page and grab a separate station file package that does exactly that. In the end you will be able to put the app and most stations on a 3,5" floppy disc (~ 1,44 MB).
